GOC erases Belfast based student optometrist from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Sean Hughes, a student optometrist based in Belfast, from its register.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found Mr Hughes’ fitness to practise impaired by reason of his convictions. This is in relation to Crown Court convictions of engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour and assault.

Mr Hughes has until 6 May 2025 to appeal against his erasure.
