GOC suspends Birmingham based optometrist from register
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Imaad Amanat, an optometrist based in Birmingham, from its register for six months.
A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to inappropriately assisting a student registrant with their preregistration requirements by taking part in an illegitimate contact lens end of trial consultation that had been arranged by the student. He then interfered with and obstructed the disciplinary/investigation process into the matter by being dishonest.
Mr Amanat’s suspension will take effect from 12 December if no appeal has been lodged.
