Applications open for new Education Visitor Panellists

We are seeking optometrists and dispensing opticians to join our Education Visitor Panel (EVP). The role is ideal for fully qualified registrants who are passionate about education quality assurance and interested in helping shape the future of optical education.

The EVP plays a key role in carrying out approval and quality assurance and enhancement activities to ensure optical qualifications meet our education requirements and maintain our core purpose of protecting the public and upholding high standards.

This is an exciting time to join our EVP as the sector implements a new set of Education and Training Requirements that will aid us in protecting the public by ensuring the standards of education of optical professionals in the UK continue to be fit for purpose.

We are seeking applicants who can analyse and interpret complex information and evidence, work together and take on board the views and advice of others, and think logically to achieve well founded, evidence-based and impartial decisions.

Panellists on the EVP will be required to commit to a range of 10-18 days of work per year, however, this may fluctuate depending on the level of activities scheduled to take place. You will receive a daily fee of £319 or hourly fee of £46 for all work carried out as an EVP panellist, and a daily fee of £223 or hourly of £32 when attending training.

Work will be remote or in-person across different locations in the UK.

The deadline for applications is Monday 8 April 2024 at 12 pm.

Experience as a contact lens optician or independent prescriber would be an advantage, but it is not essential and the role is open to all our fully qualified registrants.

Please see the job description for more details of the role.

If, after reading the job description, you believe you have the combination of skills, enthusiasm and commitment this role requires and would like to use them to help shape optical education, please send your CV along with a cover letter (no more than two pages) outlining how you meet the essential and desirable criteria set out in the job description.

Should you have any questions, please email education@optical.org.
