Birmingham based optometrist suspended from GOC register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Mohammed Zada, an optometrist based in Birmingham, from its register for nine months.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to practising as an optometrist without having adequate professional indemnity insurance and falsely claiming to have adequate insurance when renewing his GOC registration. The Committee found these actions to be dishonest.

Mr Zada has until 6 June 2024 to appeal against his suspension.
