GOC announces Nigel Sully and John Cappock as new Independent Committee Members

The General Optical Council (GOC) has appointed two new Lay Independent Members to its non-statutory committees. Nigel Sully will join the Renumerations Committee and John Cappock for the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee. 

Nigel, who lives near Swindon, Wiltshire, is an experienced Human Resource professional, formerly working at the Natural Environment Research Council and then as HR Director in the House of Lords, before semi-retiring in December 2020. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. 

Joining the Renumeration Committee, Nigel will support his members to advise the Council on fee payments, allowances and expenses and the renumeration package for the Registrar. 

John is a Chartered Accountant based in Bristol, with experience working within the NHS, local government, charities and Higher Education. He is currently University Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at the University of Westminster.  

As part of the Audit, Risk and Finance Committee, John will advise the Council and other committees on procedures relating to budgeting and financial performance, risk management and internal and external audit.  

Nigel and John started their appointed positions in April 2022.
