GOC Council Statement on situation in Ukraine

At our Council meeting on 16 March, Dr Anne Wright, CBE, GOC Chair of Council, said:

"Today’s Council meeting takes place during unprecedented circumstances in Europe, where we are witnessing the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,  entailing extreme suffering for many people.

I am sure Council will want to express its support to all those all who are suffering, and to the organisations working to address the humanitarian crisis and bring about a peaceful resolution.

Council will also want to know that the Chief Executive and colleagues are working to support those inside the GOC who may be directly or indirectly affected by the distressing situation, including providing staff with an opportunity to gather together to reflect, to learn about Ukrainian culture, and have provided advice for staff who wish donate or provide practical help.

We also extend our thoughts and best wishes to registrants, including students, and their partners and all those in the optical sector who may be directly or indirectly affected."
