GOC erases Banchory based optometrist from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Robert Fyfe, an optometrist based in Banchory in Scotland, from its register.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to failing to send on the vision report from a sight test conducted on a patient; misdiagnosing patients; failing to maintain adequate records; failing to conduct adequate sight tests; and failing to urgently refer a patient to the hospital.

Mr Fyfe has until 8 January 2023 to appeal against his erasure, during which time he is suspended from the register under an immediate suspension order.
