GOC erases Harpenden based optometrist from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Donald Lydon, an optometrist based in Harpenden, from its register.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to dishonest behaviour including continuing to practise as an optometrist while subject to an interim suspension order, submitting General Ophthalmic Service (GOS) claims for matters other than sight tests, and altering dates on GOS forms in respect to patients he had seen during his interim suspension order.

Mr Lydon has until 6 December 2023 to appeal against his erasure, during which time he is suspended from the register under an immediate suspension order.
