GOC erases suspended Bodedern based dispensing optician from register
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Gary Marshall (D-6494), a suspended dispensing optician based in Bodedern in Wales, from its register.
A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired on patient safety and public interest grounds. This is in relation to showing a persistent lack of insight into the seriousness of his actions or their consequences.
Mr Marshall was initially suspended in November 2022 in relation to falling short of GOC Standards in several ways, including by inappropriately modifying the spectacle prescriptions of patients and failing to obtain the necessary authorisation from an optometrist when altering the prescriptions of patients.
Mr Marshall has until 20 December 2023 to appeal against his erasure, during which time he remains suspended from the register.
