GOC response to Department of Health and Social Care consultation on regulating healthcare professionals, protecting the public

We have published our response to the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) consultation which sought views on proposals to modernise the legislation of the health and social care professional regulators to ensure more consistency and maintain effective public protection.

The proposals were developed in partnership with the professional regulators and the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, and cover four key areas:
• Governance and Operating Framework
• Education and Training
• Registration
• Fitness to practise

We welcome this once in a lifetime opportunity to reform overly prescriptive, complex and rigid legislative frameworks and allow regulators greater freedom to respond to future challenges, such as COVID-19, in a quicker and more effective way and broadly support the proposals presented.
