GOC suspends Bradford based dispensing optician from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Joshua Smith, a dispensing optician based in Bradford, from its register for six months.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to dishonestly intending to obtain free contact lenses for an individual through falsifying records, not using a prescription to place the order and not collecting payment for the contact lenses.

Mr Smith has until 6 December 2023 to appeal against his suspension, during which time he is suspended from the register under an immediate suspension order.
