GOC suspends Chichester based optometrist from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Philip Sowden, an optometrist based in Chichester, from its register for four months.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to failing to conduct an appropriate eye examination, failing to refer the patient to the hospital for further examination, and failing to maintain adequate records.

Mr Sowden has until 21 November 2023 to appeal against his suspension, during which time he is suspended from the register under an immediate suspension order.
