Kalwant Grewal appointed to Council
The General Optical Council (GOC) has today announced the appointment of Kalwant Grewal as a lay member of its Council. He was appointed by the Privy Council, and his term will begin on 1 February 2026.
Kalwant is a senior finance and governance professional with extensive experience across regulated, public interest, and membership organisations. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) with a strong background in audit, risk, and financial oversight at board and committee level.
Kalwant currently holds a portfolio of non-executive and governance roles, including with statutory regulators. He has also held senior executive finance roles in the NHS, social housing, and the not-for-profit sector.
Commenting on his appointment, Kalwant said:
“I am passionate about supporting regulators to maintain public confidence while enabling safe, effective, and inclusive professional practice. I look forward to working with colleagues, staff and stakeholders to ensure that the public is protected and that the GOC delivers on the ambitious commitments laid out in its strategic plan 2025-30.”
