GOC erases Wrexham-based optometrist from register
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Elizabeth Williams, an optometrist based in Wrexham, from its register.
In May 2025, a GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found Ms Williams’s fitness to practise impaired on public interest and public protection grounds. She was suspended for 12 months after failing to perform and/or record examinations and failing to make adequate patient referrals.
At a recent review, the Committee found that Ms Williams had shown no meaningful engagement with the regulatory process, and had submitted no evidence of reflection, remediation, continuing professional development, or action taken to address her clinical deficiencies. The Committee therefore directed that she be erased from the register.
Ms Williams has until 29 May 2026 to appeal against her erasure.
