GOC suspends Manchester-based optometrist from register
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Rohail Nawaz, an optometrist based in Manchester, from its register for nine months.
A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired on both public protection and public interest grounds. This related to his failure to maintain patient confidentiality by not securely storing and/or protecting paper copies of confidential patient records, and by not confidentially disposing of them when no longer required.
Mr Nawaz has until 29 October 2026 to appeal against his suspension, during which time he is under an immediate suspension order.
