GOC suspends Manchester-based optometrist from register
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Nasir Butt, an optometrist based in Manchester, from its register for six months.
A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This related to delivering a poor standard of eye examination, failing to identify vascular changes and refer the patient to their GP, and failing to maintain adequate patient records, including documenting a patient history that he had not ascertained and tests that he had not performed.
Mr Butt has until 17 May 2026 to appeal against his suspension.
