GOC suspends Bolton-based optometrist from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Aasiya Chohan, an optometrist based in Bolton, from its register for two months.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found her fitness to practise impaired on public interest grounds. In 2024, while registered as a student optometrist, she knowingly created false patient records and presented them to the College of Optometrists as evidence of her competency as part of their pre-registration scheme. The Committee found her actions to be dishonest.

Ms Chohan has until 30 June 2026 to appeal against her suspension.
