GOC suspends Brighouse based dispensing optician from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Paul Brinnen, a dispensing optician based in Brighouse, from its register.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to fraudulently processing several refunds on to his personal debit cards; and dispensing two pairs of glasses valued at £412 at no cost, despite not being entitled to do so. The Committee found these actions to be dishonest.

Mr Brinnen has until 5 March 2026 to appeal against his suspension, during which time he is under an immediate suspension order.
