GOC consultation on temporary changes to our Optometry Quality Assurance Handbook
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are consulting on proposed temporary changes to our Accreditation and Quality Assurance Handbook: Routes to registration in Optometry, 2015.
COVID-19 has altered the way in which optical education and training can be delivered, particularly the teaching and assessment of clinical skills. Therefore, we recognise that rapid changes are required to ensure that clinical experience can still be obtained, remains safe for all, and ensures that students learn the right skills, knowledge and behaviour during the pandemic.
The consultation is seeking views on the proposed changes to ensure that students’ ability to practise safely and enter our fully qualified register is maintained.
The changes would be effective from 1 September 2020 for this year’s (Autumn 2020) incoming cohort of students/trainees. The consultation will be open for a short period of time to allow time for any changes to be made before the start of the year.
To take part, please visit the GOC Consultation Hub. The consultation will close at 10am on 6 August 2020.
