GOC suspends Newport based dispensing optician from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Gareth Harris, a dispensing optician based in Newport, Wales, from its register for six months.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of his conviction. This is in relation to driving a motor vehicle after consuming a controlled drug.

Mr Harris has until 29 July 2024 to appeal against his suspension.
