'Never Events' framework to protect patients, public and registrants
Today we have published our commitment to ‘Never Events’ – the events we think should never happen at the General Optical Council.
This framework outlines our commitment to patients, the public and our registrants that it is vital to get certain things right the first time because they have such a significant impact on patient safety and protection.
Our never events include inappropriate registrations, restorations or removals from the register; failure to appropriately maintain interim or substantive fitness to practise orders where these are necessary; and failure to update a registration within 3 days of an interim or substantive fitness to practise order.
